The Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship at Children's Mercy
Hospitals and Clinics (CMH) is a one-year program approved and
accredited by the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology
and Strabismus (AAPOS).
The fellowship provides comprehensive experience in the field of
pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, and will provide the
graduating fellow with the experience necessary to enter either
private practice or an academic career.
The fellow will be exposed to every aspect of the field with a
large number of complex strabismus cases, cataracts, glaucoma and
ROP (both screening and treatment).
In addition to pediatric ophthalmologists, the fellow will spend
time and operate with glaucoma, retina, oculoplastic and ocular
oncology surgeons on a regular basis. The fellow participates in
complex strabismus and intraocular surgery that is performed at the
main hospital.
The fellow also participates in the less complicated surgical
procedures that are performed away from the main hospital. The
fellow is included in all adult strabismus surgeries that take
place at outside locations. The fellow can expect to participate in
several hundred surgical cases during the year.
Regularly scheduled journal conferences and pediatric
ophthalmology grand rounds will be provided and research
opportunities will be available.
