Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship

Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellows will spend almost two-thirds of their three-year training pursuing research interests. During the first-year, the fellow’s research interests will be identified and appropriate mentorship and a scholarship oversight committee will be established. Opportunities to begin additional education in biostatistics and quality improvement are available annually. First-year fellows will also be introduced to lab-based microbiology research during their rotation in the microbiology lab.

The emphasis in the second and third years will be to refine the research project, obtain appropriate approval, funding, and conduct research. Fellows will be expected to disseminate their research findings at local, regional, and national meetings to gain important presentation skills and networking opportunities. Fellows will develop their writing skills through manuscript preparation with submission to a peer-reviewed journal. Fellows will also have opportunities for invited manuscripts and book chapters to further their writing skills.

In addition, the Children’s Research Institute at Children’s Mercy supports a large number of basic science, translational and clinical research projects.
