Thanks to Children's Mercy, and Dr. Viriender Singhal and his
wonderful, caring staff - we survived the most difficult time in
our lives.

Our new baby, at 6 mos of age was diagnosed with sagittal
craniosynostosis (skull fused down the middle way too early) by our
pediatrician in Joplin, Missouri. At the time, all I heard was
"surgery" and "Children's Mercy," and the pediatrician had to
repeat the diagnosis and plans to me several times during that
appointment
--
it just wasn't soaking in. My husband and I were completely
terrified.
At 9 mos, Kellen underwent a cranio vault repair surgery that
was intricately performed by Dr. Singhal in Jan 2006.Our experience
with CM and all the staff was a pure blessing to our family. From
the time I sobbingly handed my baby to the nurses at the surgery
doors, to the pure "Thank you God" moment we saw Kellen in the
PICU, everyone was so supportive and helpful, knowing our baby was
going thru an amazing plastic surgery transformation to fix his
poor little head.
We spent several days at CM, 2 days in the PICU and 2 days on
the floor. I cant say enough about the nursing staff that took care
of all of us during that time. If it wasn't for all the caring
and support we received, I just don't know how we would have been
able to handle such a trying time in our lives. Our boy is
five years old now, and it seems so long ago that we went through
this -- and yet, as I type this, it is still so fresh.
Last September, we had another check up with Dr. Singhal and
Kellen was "cleared". We can't wait to see everyone again in a
couple more years to show Dr. Singhal how great his boy looks!
Thanks Children's Mercy.... you have made a difference in our
lives, one that we will never forget. Keep up the excellent work
that you do for all children in our area.
