Our first born, Colton, came two days late, weighing 9 lbs, 12
ounces. Despite entering the world via emergency c-section, he was
healthy- at least for the first 18 hours. Then Colton began having
seizures and was transferred to CMH immediately. I still remember
the transport team holding my hand as I had to say goodbye to my
son. The doctors ran numerous tests and determined that he had
suffered a stroke in utero. I was stuck in Lawrence alone, but not
a second went by where I wasn't being informed of his status by the
CMH doctors, nurses, and support staff.
When I finally got to them, I could feel the love and
dedication that the CMH staff gives to each and every family that
enters their doors. All of the staff became family within the seven
days before we were discharged. Colton was sent home on
anti-seizure medication and due to the quick and accurate work of
the CMH staff, is now a perfectly healthy three-year old with no
sign of side effects or delay.
Two years and a month later, I began pre-mature labor in the
28th week of our second pregnancy and delivered a 3 lb preemie,
Carter. We didn't even skip a beat when asked which level three
hospital in town we wanted him transported to. Carter spent
two months in the NICU, during which we were taken care of by the
CMH family. Carter got to leave a whole month before his due date
and is now a 28 lb. one-year old with no health problems. He's
performing at his adjusted age and we owe it all to the loving care
that CMH provided. Beyond the exceptional care we were so blessed
to receive for both our boys, what we love about CMH is that they
don't just discharge you and move on. Both of our boys were
followed by specialists afterwards and are affectionately
remembered as family. There's no better place and we owe them the
world- times two!
