Submitted by LeAnn, Allison's mother

We knew there might be something wrong with Allison before she
was born, because her heart rate had been slow & my amniotic
fluid level was very low. I was induced 10 days early &
delivery was less than ideal. When she was born they tested her
blood glucose, as they usually do, & she was low, so they
whisked her away to the nursery. Alli was plugged into IVs for
glucose drips for 5 days, while they waited for her to stabilize on
her own. Every time they took her off the glucose, her sugar
plummeted & she became lethargic & limp. Finally the
doctors decided she needed more help, so she was taken to CMH.
Even there, she saw doctor after doctor, & test after test,
before there was a diagnosis.
After 4-5 more days, they decided it was her pituitary gland
that wasn't functioning. They started her on different hormone
replacements, & she instantly perked up & started gaining
weight & acting like a normal baby. We went home on day 19,
Christmas Eve. The best present we could've received. Now she's 5
1/2 years old & looking forward to starting kindergarten. She's
an extremely bright & happy child, not hindered at all by her
condition. Thanks to the Endocrine doctors at CMH that she was
diagnosed & treated before any developmental damage was
done!
