What type of training will I
receive?
Once accepted as a volunteer, you will sign up for New Volunteer
Orientation where you will receive valuable information on working
in a hospital. Within two weeks after your orientation, you will be
contacted by your volunteer supervisor to set up your job-specific
training. You will also be given the opportunity to train with
other volunteers in the same position until you feel comfortable
and your supervisor feels you've met the competencies to do the
job.

What do I do about
parking?
Volunteers will receive a parking pass at New Volunteer
Orientation. It is to be placed on the driver's side dash of their
car so Security will see it. Volunteers receive free, preferential
parking at all locations.

Are there any short-term volunteer
opportunities?
No, because of training costs and the ongoing needs of our
patients, families and staff, each program asks for a minimum of 75
hours, volunteering one three-hour shift a week. The exceptions are
the
College Semester Volunteer program, which requires 45 hours
during one semester, and the
Summer Student Volunteer program that offers shorter
requirements.

What type of items does Children's
Mercy accept as donations?
Children's Mercy relies heavily on
donations from our community in order to "color the world" of our
patients and families. Because of our Infection
Control Policy, all items must be new with tags on them or be
in the original package. For more details, please click on "
Community and Corporate Groups" then
"Donations/Drives".

May I bring in my donations and
personally give them to patients?
Because of the privacy laws, you may not personally give your
items to our patients. Security and the Volunteer Services
Department will accept your donations, and our Child
Life Department will distribute them appropriately. Be
assured, they are very much appreciated and put to great use.
