Course Description

This workshop will provide a comprehensive understanding of the fetal cardiovascular system with a focus on detection and diagnosis of fetal cardiac disease. Lectures will include review of normal and abnormal cardiac images, as well as an overview of the major structural cardiac defects.

Course Objectives

  • Evaluate our regional prenatal detection of congenital heart disease 
  • Describe goals for prenatal detection of congenital heart disease in our region 
  • Identify indications for fetal echocardiogram 
  • Utilize fetal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology to identify prenatal cardiac disease 
  • Review mandatory components of a detailed prenatal cardiac evaluation 
  • Demonstrate use of fetal echocardiography diagnostic modalities 
  • Evaluate prenatal imaging of normal compared with abnormal cardiac structures 
  • Evaluate fetal cardiac rhythms for normal and abnormal findings 
  • Analyze fetal cardiac images for complex fetal cardiac pathology

Who Should Attend

Sonographers and registered nurses in the fields of fetal echocardiography, radiology, obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine. The information presented will also benefit those who care for the mothers of fetuses with congenital heart disease and neonates with congenital heart disease.
