The sickle cell team at Children’s Mercy Hospital provides comprehensive care to approximately 270 children and young adults with all types of sickle cell disease. Services provided include diagnostic blood tests, medical and nursing care, education, and psychosocial support in state of the art facilities. The team includes physicians, nurses, social work, child life specialists, research data coordinators, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals. In addition, Children’s Mercy Hospital has specially trained outpatient and inpatient nursing staff with experience in caring for the patient with sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell clinic appointments are available on Tuesdays.
Emergency Department and inpatient services are available 24 hours a day.
