Young Learners Coordinator, ABC'nD Autism Center. Amy began her work with children as a swim instructor, t-ball coach and assistant at the Child Development Center on the Emporia State University campus. She initially began her professional career as an early childhood special education teacher in the Olathe School District then spent three years as a Family Service Coordinator and Special Instructor for the Kansas City, Kansas School District. During that time she began working for ABC'nD Enterprises with families of children with autism working in home programs under the direction of Nancy Michael. Eventually Amy assisted in the initial ABC'nD therapy groups for the summer and eventually the school year at ABC'nD Autism Center. Currently she is the Young Learners Coordinator (3-5 year olds) for the classrooms at ABC'nD Autism Center.
Amy is working towards becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has had training in Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children (TEACCH). She has also been trained in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Verbal Behavior, Floortime, and STARS (Strategies for Teaching Based on Autism Research). Amy also received training on the Family-guided Approaches to Collaborative Early-intervention Training and Services (FACETS), a joint project of Kansas University Affiliated Program and Florida State University, led by Co-Director Juliann Woods, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. In addition, Amy has had training on Social Stories, Pivotal Response Therapy and assisted in Structured Teaching workshop presentations with Nancy Michael, the director of ABC'nD Autism Center. Currently Amy is part of the collaboration with Juniper Gardens on research involving children with ASD using PECS with peers.
