It may seem obvious, but parenting counts! A growing body of research shows that the first five years of a child’s life are instrumental in setting patterns for how children learn and develop. Every interaction with your child, every act of verbal and non–verbal communication, is important in your child’s development.
That’s why Children’s Mercy, Kohl’s Department Stores and KCPT 19 have teamed up to offer Parenting Counts. Originally developed by the Talaris Research Institute in partnership with public television, Parenting Counts provides informational and entertaining resources to bridge the gap between the latest discoveries in early learning and brain development and parenting practice.
Short Parenting Counts videos highlight practical tips on parent/child communication, understanding your child’s feelings and emotional development, the development of literacy and early learning behaviors, and the unique ways in which children explore and learn about the world around them.
Through Children’s Mercy Healthy Kids University, brought to you by Kohl’s, you can also sign up for parent education classes to help you keep your children healthy and safe.
And be sure to check out our online child health and safety resources for more information on child development, health and safety issues, and free newsletters.
