Why Children's Mercy


  • Treatment emphasizes preventive care. Patients benefit from the expertise of professionals in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, nursing, social work, nutrition and exercise physiology.

  • Treatment is provided in close cooperation with the patient’s referring physician.

  • Specialty cardiac catheterization procedures are provided to reduce adverse events related to hospitalization and surgery. Services include balloon dilation for pulmonary valve stenosis, aortic valve stenosis, recoarctation of the aorta, and pulmonary artery stenosis; transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects; coil occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus and other abnormal blood vessels; balloon atrial septostomy and intravascular stent placement.

Our pediatric cardiology department provides services for individuals, particularly newborn children to young adults, suffering from acquired or congenital heart disease .
