The Children's Mercy Respiratory Care staff actively works in all patient-care settings, including the intensive care units and the emergency department.

Services are provided 24 hours a day in all departments at both Children's Mercy and Children's Mercy Kansas.

Respiratory therapists work closely with the Sections of Neonatology, Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine, as well as provide routine care on the medical/surgical floors. Therapists help care for patients with the below conditions.

  • Equipment acquisition and maintenance

  • High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV)

  • Inpatient, urgent care, and emergency department services

  • Non-invasive monitoring

  • Oxygen therapy set-ups and evaluations

  • Patient and caregiver education

  • Ventilator management and education

  • Organ recipients

  • Reactive airway disease

  • Ventilator dependency
