The Liver and Intestinal Transplant Program at Children's Mercy Hospital provides a comprehensive approach to treating children with end-stage liver disease, liver and/or intestinal failure. The Liver Transplant Program is a key component of our comprehensive Liver Care Center, which provides the full spectrum of medical and surgical care for children with liver disease.
Liver and Intestinal Transplant Staff
Our multidisciplinary team works with referring physicians to ensure effective continuity of care for pediatric patients and their families. For children diagnosed with liver tumors, such as hepatoblastoma, we work closely with the oncology team to optimize timing of transplant. Long-term follow up is provided through a joint transplant/oncology clinic in order to minimize the number of appointments the patient must attend.
Liver Transplant Programs
Patients and families will benefit from a team approach to care that involves support from several Children's Mercy services. We work directly with the radiology team for biopsies and other interventional procedures. A collaborative clinic with hematology/oncology provides dedicated care for patients with all types of liver tumors.
- Our team of surgeons, nurses, and coordinators are specially trained in pediatric transplant care.
- Patients and families benefit from a highly experienced team, with many physicians having more than 30 years of experience.
