The Quality and Safety Committee
The Quality and Safety Committee of the Section of
Hospital Medicine is dedicated to creating and sustaining a work
environment that fosters safe, efficient and patient-centered care.
By developing a system for educating the section in the skills of
quality improvement, we work together to identify and address
shared areas of opportunity.
Specific areas of emphasis include:
- Improving the clinical care of patients with
pneumonia.
- Improving resident education in the inpatient environment.
- Developing a prioritization tool to optimize Quality
Improvement efforts in the section.

Legal Aid Referral Program (LARP)
Dr. Jeffrey Colvin, faculty member in the Section of
Pediatric Hospital Medicine, helped develop the Legal Aid Referral
Program (LARP), where he currently acts as Medical Advisor.
Through LARP, Children's Mercy collaborates with Legal Aid of
Western Missouri and Kansas Legal Services to use legal methods to
improve the health of our patients. LARP strives to provide
children and families with access to legal services that will
ensure that their basic needs for food, housing, education, health
care, and safety are met-especially when those needs affect their
health.
