In 2006 and again in 2009, Children’s Mercy was the only
pediatric hospital in the nation to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award
from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. It recognizes the
significant commitment made in providing high-quality cancer care to our
patients and exceeding the standards of excellence set by the Commission on
Cancer Approvals Program.
Cancer program surveys are a comprehensive evaluation of the
entire scope, organization and activity of a cancer program. Every three years,
a physician surveyor evaluates compliance with the 36 standards that are
required for accreditation. Children’s Mercy has received the highest level of
accreditation—three-year with commendation—on each of the past two evaluations.
