Bone Marrow Transplantation Patient Resources

Children with cancer or other serious health disorders experience a wide range of emotions throughout the diagnosis and treatment process. Family members also share many of the same emotions the patient experiences. Children's Mercy offers resources to support families during this time.

Visiting Guidelines

We promote family-centered care by having the support of friends and family to enhance the emotional well-being of patients. All patients need to be in good health.

Room Amenities and Services

Every patient room features a window, two TVs, and a parent bed with a separate call light. Nurse offices are located nearby to tend to any needs of patients and families.

HEPA-Filter Technology

The entire BMT unit uses HEPA-filter technology to keep patients safe from infection by filtering germs and microbials from the air.

Parent Room

We provide a room where parents can relax - no children are allowed. The room includes a computer, TV, and washer and dryer.

BMT Bucks

The BMT Bucks program is a way to motivate our patients to take ownership over their health and recovery. Compliance with taking medicines and other aspects of their care will be rewarded with BMT Bucks. Patients can then create wish-list items, and our Child Life team will gather items to turn the unit playroom into a store. Patients get to take their BMT Bucks and go shopping in the store every Friday. This program helps encourage compliance with individual care plans, which will lead to quicker recovery.
