The Section of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics provides the full spectrum of surgical care for neonatal, pediatric and adolescent cardiac patients. Children's Mercy is the only hospital in the region where a board-certified pediatric intensivist is in-house 24/7 to provide care for children who need heart surgery.

Children's Mercy ranks among the top three pediatric hospitals in the nation for annual volume of surgical procedures per surgeon. Experience matters — this level of patient care leads to a higher level of expertise among our surgeons in caring for heart defects such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome, tetralogy of fallot, aortic valve disease and other complex conditions.

Department Highlights

• Through our Fetal Health Center, our pediatric heart surgery program is the only one within a 150-mile radius that provides complicated cardiac surgery for newborns. 
• Our pediatric heart surgery program also covers adults with congenital heart problems.
• We offer six state-of-the-art heart-surgery suites including four new cardiovascular operating suites and two hybrid catheterization suites. 
• Hybrid suites are used for simultaneous cardiac catheterization procedures and surgical intervention.
