Children's Mercy Hospitals and
Clinics has a general surgical unit called "2 Henson," which
provides care for general surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery,
trauma, burn and ENT patients.
We are the only pediatric burn unit in a five-state region.
Common diagnoses include:
- Appendectomy
- Shunt malfunction
- Pectus repair
- Fundoplication
- Cholecystectomy
- Pyloric stenosis
- VP shunt placement
- Trauma
- Burn
We are a 26-bed unit, including a burn treatment room and
four-specialty burn patient rooms. All patient rooms are
private.
Patients range in age from neonates to age 18. We occasionally
treat young adults.
We work with attending, fellow and resident surgeons and surgery
team APRNs. We also work with medical team physicians when medical
patients overflow onto our unit.
