Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics has a general medical/surgical unit called "5 Henson," whose specialty is orthopaedics.

Common diagnoses include:

• Traumatic orthopaedic inuries
• Sports injuries
• Congenital orthopaedic conditions
• Neuromuscular disorders
• Any general medical diagnoses

Most casting is done in the Operating Room, but we can use the 5 Sutherland Treatment Room for casting, if needed. We are the experts on cast care, traction and other orthopaedic topics.

We are a small, 14-bed, brightly-colored unit.

Our patients range in age from neonates to 22 years.

We work primarily with the orthopaedic surgeons, residents, and advanced practice nurses. We also work with the "Purple Team" - one of our general medical teams composed of residents and attending physicians.
