The Hematology/Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplant Unit at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics is located at "4 Henson."

The unit specializes in care for pediatric patients with cancer and hematological disorders, and provides blood and marrow transplantation. We care for patients and families in the inpatient setting, as well as assist with transition into the home setting.

Common diagnoses include:

  • Leukemia, including ALL & AML
  • Solid tumors such as brain tumors, Osteosarcoma and Wilms tumor
  • Hodgkins Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
  • Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Hemophilia

We are a 25-bed unit with all-private rooms. Five of our patient rooms are located in the blood and marrow transplantation section of our unit, which is separated from the other 20 beds.

Our colorfully designed, state-of-the-art unit features:

  • 25 private rooms with private bathrooms
  • Hepafilters, allowing immunocompromised patients freedom to leave their room and visit our large play room to participate in child-life activities vital to the patient's psychosocial & physical health
  • A parent room with a kitchen, living room, computer access and laundry facility

Patients range in age from neonates to 21 years.

We work with our team of hematology and oncology attending physicians, residents, and APRNs and PAs. We are also supported by the Hematology/Oncology Clinic, with an infusion room (small clinic based on the inpatient unit) to provide after-hours and weekend-clinic needs.
