General Information
The Cardiovascular Surgery
Operating Staff provides a highly skilled and safe environment for
patients undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects.
We enjoy a cohesive collaborative relationship with the
cardiovascular surgeons and the anesthesia care providers.
We provide an all-RN staff that has combined skills of
scrubbing, circulating and first assisting. We have 85
percent of nurses certified in perioperative nursing (CNOR),
as well as 2 CRNFAs and two RNFAs.
Our patients range from the smallest premature infants to
adults, and our cases from simple to the most complex.
We participate in translational research activities from bench
to bedside, and provide support for operative research trips.
We have four operating suites that are adjacent to both the main
OR and two state-of-the-art hybrid cardiovascular laboratory
suites.
The hybrid cardiovascular suites allow us to do combined
(cardiology/cardiac surgery) as well as emergent heart procedures
without moving the patient.
We have two scrub nurses, two circulating nurses and a first
assistant on nearly all procedures.
We are supported by:
- Main Operating Room
- Cardiology
- Anesthesia
- Pharmacy
- Respiratory Therapy
- Perfusion
- APNs
- Interpreters
- Chaplaincy Service
We have cardiac disposition conference on Friday mornings that
staff attend, and frequent educational offerings.
We work a Monday-Friday schedule starting at 7 a.m. with call
responsibilities.
